Why Did Boxing Leave The News?

What happens in the world of boxing.

As I do happen to have an extreme interest in all kind of sports, I also have watched a lot of boxing in my time. Now I wonder what happens to the sport of boxing. Before I did not have to look up or search for any of the information I feel that I need (it really is needed for me).

I watched my boxing at Eurosprt on tv, and combined with the sports news I was always updated. Now I really have to look for my information and read special boxing news reports to stay updated. I do not know if this is common all over the globe, but in Norway boxing has disappeared. I know it’s not the lack of Norwegian Boxers cause they have not been involved in the top anyway, but I wonder if it has something to do with the eastern countries dominating the sport.

I have to say that I’m the kind of person that follows almost everything that happens in the world of sports without dedicating too much time for each and every niche. I mostly get my main information from, as said before, the news. I simply do not have the time to read every website and magazine to get all the detailed information.

Back to the sport of boxing. It seems to me that boxing more or less disappeared from the regular news when the Russians took the heavyweight titles. I remember when we had champions from the western countries and the build-up for the big title fights covered by everyone. Now I feel lucky if I get to know the result of a match for the heavyweight title.

To be honest, I hear more about Mike Tyson than I do about the Russian monster Valujev or the Klitsko brothers. What did happen? Did the western countries lose their interest of the sport? Do we need a new Mike Tyson or Evander Holyfield to wake the journalists again?

I remember the days when all the news hyped up the tension before a fight and it was like I needed to see the match to get the result as quick as possible. I could stay up all night waiting for the event that took place in a different timezone. Now they don’t even mention the result in the morning news anymore.

All I have to say is that I want boxing back in the spotlight. I know there are huge sports to compete with about the press coverage, but at least a few sentences. Maybe Don King slowed down on his hype now, but I believe we need more of it to get the people follow boxing again.
